Introduction to the Basics of Microsoft’s Excel Spreadsheets
The objective of this course is to familiarize you with Excel’s basic features, and to teach you how to create and use simple spreadsheets. If you have Microsoft Office or Office 365, the Excel program is included in these programs. You do not need any prior knowledge of Excel. This course presents beginning concepts for using Microsoft’s Excel program. At the end of this two-day class you will be able to create and use basic spreadsheets for maintaining a budget, tracking expenses, weekly meal planning, keeping track of prescription drugs, and, in general, storing and sorting data. PREREQUISITE: You have Microsoft Excel installed at home on your computer, and have a good working knowledge of Windows 10 basics. 2 Day Class / Class fee $25 Android Smartphone Basics This is a two day course to teach you the basics of using an Android Smartphone. Since there are many variations of Android Smartphones and vendors, this class will focus on functions common to almost all brands, such as, the camera, Internet connections and WiFi, navigating with maps, and downloading or removing Apps. You will learn how to secure your phone, and how to find it through your computer should you lose it. In addition, you’ll learn how to send text messages by...typing or by voice. And, much more. Note:This class does not address the unique functionality of the Jitterbug SmartPhone. Be sure that you bring your Android Smartphone and that it is fully charged before coming to class. Each class day will be 2 1/2 hours in length. 2 Day Class / Class fee $25 Intro to Microsoft Word Learn to create and edit attractive and professional looking documents using Microsoft Word. After completing this course, you will be able to design family newsletters, flyers, resumes, business correspondence, invitations, thank-you letters, and more. This three-day class covers the most used features of Microsoft Word, which all users should know, whether they are complete beginners or are already somewhat familiar with Word. PREREQUISITE: A good working knowledge of Windows basics. 3 class days / Class fee $35 Managing Your Passwords - Safely This two-day class will introduce the fundamental elements of good password creation and how to securely store them electronically for quick access. KeePass, a free and secure password management program, will be the main topic. After completing this class, you will have a working knowledge of KeePass, including its installation and setup, and be able to use it for all your passwords. In class, you will create and begin building your own personal KeePass vault, so remember to bring to class a couple of account websites and passwords that you use on a regular basis. If you use passwords for email, shopping, medical portals, financial organizations or banking, then this class is for you. PREREQUISITE: Students should have a working knowledge of Windows. 2 class days Class fee $25 Understanding and getting the most out of your Gmail Account If you have a Gmail account and would like to understand how to send group emails, create folders to organizer your account, to add an automatic vacation response, to add an automatic signature and more? If you are considering getting a Gmail account and would like to know how to use it (without the trial and error method)? This two day class is for you. 2 class days / Class fee $25 Backup files and pictures online and share with friends Using Microsoft’s OneDrive in Windows 10, you can easily backup, store, and retrieve important information from online storage. OneDrive will help you safeguard your ‘cannot lose’ documents and photos. Another benefit is that you can securely access your OneDrive files and folders from any computer or mobile device. You can also share pictures on your OneDrive with friends and family without having to email large amounts of data. This three-day class will show you how simple it is to use OneDrive, how to share content on OneDrive (and on your PC) with others, and how to set up this sharing capability in Windows 10. PREREQUISITE: You have Windows 10 installed at home, and have a good working knowledge of Windows 10 basics. 3 class days / Class fee $35 Understanding and Using Windows 10 – Part 1 Are you relatively new to Windows computers, and Windows 10 in particular? Then this new four-day class is for you. It’s for those who want or need to have a fundamental understanding of the Windows 10 Operating System and its core features. You will learn about the Windows 10 Desktop and Start Menu, and how to customize Windows 10 to your liking. You will also learn about working with applications and how to use File Explorer to manage pictures and documents. 4 class days / Class fee $45 Understanding and Using Windows 10 - Part 2 Want to learn more about Windows 10? This new four-day class is for those who want a deeper understanding of the more advanced features of Windows 10. For example - the Action and Notification Center, Cortana (new digital assistant), Microsoft Edge (the replacement for Internet Explorer), Windows 10 Settings, working with Apps, and the Microsoft Store. REREQUISITE: Understanding and Using Windows 10 - Part 1 or a good working knowledge of Windows 10 basics. 4 class days. / Class fee $45 Google Photos Google Photos is a photo storage and organizing program located in the “Cloud”. It allows you to effortlessly collect your lifetime of photos in one place, keep them safe, and have a lot of fun with them. This app was designed for Smartphones and Tablets, but can and should be used on your computer as well. Questions answered in this class: If I backup to the cloud, should I still make backups of my computer, smartphones or tablets? Can I share my pictures with others and/or keep them private in the cloud? How do I organize my thousands of pictures in the cloud? If you use a smartphone, tablet or camera to take pictures and want to have them all in one manageable place…then this is the class for you! PREREQUISITE: Students should have a working knowledge of Windows. 2 class days Class fee $25 Apple iPhone Basics Discover the basics of your iPhone. This course will demonstrate how to set up your iPhone and will provide a brief overview of the many applications (apps) available. This class is for the iPhone 5s, SE, and all models of the 6, 7, 8 and X (10). All of these iPhones are compatible with the new iOS12. Please bring your own iPhone to class. 3 class days / Class fee $35 Apple iPad Basics Discover the basics of your iPad. This course will demonstrate how to set up your iPad and will provide a brief overview of the many applications (apps) available. This class is for the iPad 5th Generation (Models 1822 and 1823), all versions of the iPad Mini and iPad Pro. All of these iPad devices are compatible with the new iOS12. Please bring your own iPad to class. 3 class days / Class fee $35 Managing Your Computer Security Being casual about your computer security is no longer an option. Understand how to properly secure your computer, and protect your private information from everything you hear about and things you don’t hear about. This class will help you understand how to recognize a computer threat. Good security not only makes your data safer, but greatly enhances the performance of your computer. 2 class days / Class fee $25 File Management: Saving, Storing, and Managing Your Files "Help! I saved a document and it just disappeared! I know I saved it and now it’s gone!" If this sounds familiar to you, this One Day class is just what you need. After taking this class, you will know for sure where your documents are being saved to, how to find them, and if needed, how to create a new folder to keep them in and move them to that folder. The class also includes a segment on saving your documents to a DVD or flash drive. Perfect for backing up your documents and precious photos! 1 day class / Class fee $15 Genealogy – Using FamilySearch.org and RootsMagic Essentials family tree database software. Do you have an interest in researching your family history? If so, this class is for you. Students will become acquainted with FamilySearch.org and obtain hands-on experience searching for records of their ancestors. Students will also learn the basics of RootsMagic Essentials software used for creating a family tree database. The class will briefly cover free online resources students can use to search for records and other ways to obtain information, as well as installation of the free version of RootsMagic on a PC. At the end of the class, students will have the skills to research and create a family tree database. PREREQUISITE: You must have a working knowledge of Windows and browsing the internet.
